About Valcambi Suisse
Valcambi is one of the oldest refiners of precious metals which has produced gold, silver and platinum since 1961. Between 1961 and 1968, the company operated under the name: Valori & Cambi. This lasted until 1968 when the company was bought out by Credit Suisse and renamed Valcambi; the company investors know and love today. Between 1968 and 1980, Valcambi underwent several changes and became London and Comex approved good delivery.
In 2001, the company again underwent several changes as Credit Suisse began to withdraw its focus on bullion and precious metals. Valcambi was then sold to European Gold Refineries and in 2004, Newmont became a strategic partner. From that point on, Valcambi continues to focus on precious metals and made several advancements in minting. The company was among the first to offer divisible gold and silver bars which were offered in assay cards and trademarked under the name “CombiBars.”
Today CombiBars have become extremely popular in the investment community and their demand has continued to rise. Besides these popular bars, Valcambi is also well known for their quality gold, silver and platinum bars which are offered in sealed assay cards.
Valcambi Gold Bars
Some of the most popular products currently offered by Valcambi Suisse are their gold bars. All of their gold bullion products are sold in a sealed, tamper evident assay card which is guaranteed by the mint. No matter the weight or type of gold bar, all of their products are minted using an industry standard .9999 pure gold.
Valcambi Gold Bar Sizes and Purity
Valcambi Suisse offers gold bars in a number of unique sizes. The main weight classes include gram and troy ounce sized bars. The most common weights of Valcambi Gold Bars include 20 gram, 50 gram, 1 oz and 100 grams. Each of these weights are offered in both divisible and standard variations.
The divisible bars are serrated into several smaller one gram bars relevant to their weight. Fro example, the 50 Gram Valcambi Gold CombiBar features 50 x 1 gram gold pieces which contain serrated edges. Each piece on the bar includes a purity and weight stamp in case you decide to break them up.
Gold CombiBar Design
On the front of each Valcambi CombiBar is the company name and logo. The weight, purity and unique serial number are also included here. The front of the plastic assay card features the company name and logo again.
On the back of the assay card is the weight, purity and bar structure (ex. 50 x 1 gram). On each individual serrated bar is the purity and weight for that specific piece. For example, on the 50 gram bar, each piece will read: 1 g, Fine Gold 999.9.” This helps the bars be authenticated if you ever decide to break off smaller bars.
Standard Gold Bar Design
On the front of the standard gold bars offered by Valcambi is their logo. The weight, purity and metal type are also inscribed below the logo. Below this information is a unique serial number which can be matched up with the number stamped on the back of the assay. The back of the bar is kept fairly standard with only the company name which is stamped vertically.
Valcambi Gold Bar Pricing and Packaging
In terms of pricing, Valcambi Gold Bars are usually marked up between $20 and $30 above the current gold price depending on the type of bar. Compared to other Swiss Gold Bars, this is somewhat low for the 1 oz standard bars. This makes them one of the most cost effective gold bars to buy. When purchasing the CombiBars however, the premium is a little bit higher due to the higher cost to mint them.
All Valcambi Bars are packaged and encased individually in assay cards to protect their condition and authenticity. Their bars are generally sealed at the mint in plastic cases of 25 bars, making them easy to store in a home safe or other secure places.
