About Ohio Precious Metals

Ohio Precious Metals or OPM for short, is the USA’s largest producer of good delivery gold and silver bullion. The company was founded in 1974, and today has a massive facility capable of refining and minting tons of precious metals. One of their main focuses is metal refining, however they also offer a wide range of smaller bullion that is available to investors in both gold and silver.

Though their bars are not the most intricate in terms of detail and design, they are in high demand by investors because of their extremely low cost per ounce. This is achievable because the OPM facility is capable of overseeing the entirety of the manufacturing process from sourcing to refining to minting. Their offering of both gold and silver is somewhat limited compared to other mints, however they make gold and silver bullion from weights of 1 oz to 100 oz.

OPM Gold Bar Weights

Ohio Precious Metals offers gold bars in a very limited range of sizes. The only weights of gold bullion that OPM mints are the 1 oz and kilogram gold bars. Compared to other mints who offer bars in small gram weights, their selection is pretty limited. With that said, their offering is enough to satisfy most large investors who are looking to acquire bullion in bulk at a low price point.

OPM Gold Bar Design and Packaging

The only two versions of the OPM Gold Bar that are made today include a very simple design. No matter the bar weight, their bullion will contain the weight, purity and metal type as well as the OPM Metals logo.Below we will go over both the 1 oz and 1 kilogram OPM gold bar in further detail.

1 oz OPM Gold Bar

The 1 oz OPM Gold Bar has a very basic design with simple markings and is available in an assay card. On the front of the bar you will see the OPM Metals logo centered at to the top of the surface. Below their logo, you will see the weight, purity and metal type. This information is etched in small letters and will read as “1 Troy Ounce .9999 Fine Gold.”

Each bar also has a QR code for security towards the bottom as well as the marking “U.S.A.” On the front of the assay card at the very top, you will notice a large colorized OPM logo which is complimented with green, orange and greyish blue. On the bottom of the assay are the words “CertiCard Security Case” which is OPM’s version of a tamper proof security feature.

The back of the bar is as simplistic as the front, and there are various OPM logo’s which are arranged in a vertical pattern. The weight and purity are also included on the assay for further verification. These bars come in cases of 25 straight from the mint and are easy to store by stacking them atop one another.

Kilo OPM Gold Bar

Because of its size, the OPM Kilo Gold Bar is traded mostly for its gold content. These bars are kept even more basic than the 1 oz variation. On the front side, the company name is etched into the top of the bar which reads “Ohio Precious Metals.” Directly underneath this information is the purity and weight (in kilogram). The back of the bar is intentionally kept blank. These bars are sold in individual quantities and there is not really much in terms of mint packaging.

OPM Gold Bar Pricing

No matter if you are looking at the Kilo or 1 oz OPM Gold Bar, they are generally priced much lower than other bars of the same weight. Because OPM is able to oversee the entire minting process, the bars are able to be manufactured at a much lower cost than their competitors. For this reason, many of those who are looking for the lowest price per ounce will purchase OPM Gold Bars.

If you are going to purchase the 1 oz OPM Gold Bar you can expect to pay anywhere from $15-$40 over the current gold spot price depending on the quantity you are purchasing. The 1 Kilo OPM Gold Bar is often priced even lower and will usually sell for around $10-$15 per ounce over spot.

Buying OPM Gold Bars

When looking into purchasing an OPM Gold Bar, you will find that the best places to buy them will be either online or at a local coin shop. Both options will work so long as you purchase from a responsible company that sources the bullion direct from the mint or trading desks. Above you can compare prices offered by online dealers to get a better idea of the out the door price with shipping.
